Family FEASTival is an educational opportunity for children, and adults alike.
A quick glance at their website demonstrates their propensity for learning through fun.
A community garden contributes to sustainability, to fun-filled learning, to creativity, and to a sense of community through organic gardening activities.
Family FEASTival’s founders, Kate and Madhu Kazony, have facilitated the creation of a garden, where children and adults can grow their own food, trade with others, and sustain themselves through harvesting, trading and selling seedlings.
“Try not to have a good time…this is supposed to be educational.” ? Charles M. Schulz
Our interview with Kate and Madhu provides some idea into the secret of the success of their venture. They are passionate about educating children in ‘real life’, and their connection to nature is evident. throughout the interview they glowed, they are funny, peaceful and the perfect role models of living in harmony with nature. We left feeling better for the meeting. You know how some people just add to the space when your with them. They are so committed to their passion, Kate sharing how she would love to create an amazing space for the young of the town of Maleny with an arts centre and expanded edible gardens in the main street..Now that’s what I call vision.
The idea of the “Hidden Garden”, the name of the childrens community garden started from a desire, and a growing need, to create a safe and beautiful growing environment where children explore growing edible plants – fresh vegetables and fruits, herbs and Australian native bush foods, under the encouragement of adult educators.
There is an after-school program, and programs for small children during school hours. Kate and Madhu are also building an online learning program, which can be accessed around the globe, for families living in cities who don’t know where to begin.
We spent so long with them, we’ve divided the videos into 3 parts….Learn more about how to start your own garden, and how to facilitate the creation of a community garden in your area and generally how easy and fun organic gardening can be in the video’s below.
