DIY Compost Tumbler
Its one of the most handy things to have if you are keen to grow your own food. But a commercial one can set you back quite a few dollars. Why spend on that if you can make it for cents in the dollar from recycled goods. Composting is a great way to reduce landfill and makes use of everything that comes onto your property.
If you only need a small amount, or if you need it in regular amounts like I do, (I’m always creating new beds somewhere!) this is the ideal solution. I have to admit I do still have my large bays of compost, but these can take a lot longer to break down and sometimes I just need compost NOW!
Compost is the best way to recycle those scraps, create amazing nutrients for your soil and ensure your continued supply of home grown veggies. You will be amazed how easy this DIY compost tumbler is to make. You can find all you need at tip shops, local classified sites or craigslist. Or just recycle what youve got stored in the sheds or around the place.
If you could see our place you would see just how much we recycle. I used to apologize when people came to our property for the first time. Chicken pens made out of old pool fencing, pig paddock with recycled iron from the milking shed. The list goes on. But these days I embrace it. I just love how we get to recycle, up-cycle and maximize our resources.
I really don’t care if the place looks a little hotchpotch, everything is loved and made to order. There’s a certain feeling of creativity and nurturing on a property like ours, whether its the DIYcompost tumbler or the rather creative fencing around some buildings… it works.
